About

Leaps Capital is an unconventional investment fund based in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was founded by Eric Xu, Ph.D. in 2019.

Leaps Capital built on the core idea that while our objective reality progresses continuously, our perceived reality is not. Perceived reality is not continuous (let alone differentiable or linear) and is full of leaps.

Leaps manifested in various areas. They are paradigm shifts to philosophers, creative destructions to economists, phase transitions to physicists. Investors are no stranger to this concept either – asset bubbles grow and burst, as sure as the sun will rise.

Motivated by ergodicity economics, log-periodic power law singularity (LPPLS) models and facilitated by a new generation of computational tools such as TensorFlow, Leaps Captical’s strategies focus on tracking and modeling the sudden changes of perceived reality, and reaping the mirroring changes in financial markets.

The fund also utilizes advanced computational tools developed from the AI/Machine Learning community in the last few years to finance. It is Dr. Xu’s firm believe that a smaller investment firm can have an edge against other players if they couple the right investment philosophy with the right set of tools.

Dr. Xu received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Washington University in St. Louis. He worked at Google, Fitbit and Reddit. He is also a co-founder of two small startups in the Bay Area.
